Fat Loss 4 Idiots delivers on it’s title’s claims… it’s an incredibly simple, diet-only weight loss program. They recommend just 30 minutes of mild exercise a day – I can live with that.
Their weight loss claims are remarkable – 9 pounds every 11 days, over and over. That’s a LOT of weight loss, and I’m glad they include a disclaimer saying that if you _ever_ experience more then 1 pound of weight loss a day, you should re-evaluate the program. It’s a hugely popular program – you can find it all over the internet, and it seems to be for a good reason.

Their premise is that you’re working with ‘calorie shifting‘ – giving you different levels of calories, and macronutrients within the calories, from day to day, tricking your body into burning more calories then you thought it would. This is a technique I’ve seen in all sorts of weightlifting forums and other fitness-obsessed places – it’s good to see it brought to the everyday level.
They ask that you eat often to keep your metabolism up – 4 times a day, 2 hours and 30 minutes apart. The foods they recommend are probably pretty close to what you’re eating already (if you’re eating somewhat healthy) and they really focus on whole foods – nothing processed recommended. But they still have room for you eating things like pasta, late night snacks, and drinking (in moderation). I think that’s a plus.
One of the unique things in this diet, and something I haven’t seen featured enough, is they give you THREE days at a time for ‘cheat’ days! That’s pretty huge – they recommend 11 days on their (very reasonable) diet plan – and then three days off. So every other week, you get a long weekend to eat whatever you want. This would make the diet so much easier to follow I would think… it’s a longer time then a single cheat day, or even just a cheat meal that I’ve seen in other programs.
Fat Loss 4 Idiots has a specialized diet plan for everyone that comes in – you input your stats… and it gives you the meal plan, simple. I like that you don’t have to browse through pages and pages of recipes and plans that… aren’t for you, sorry. They accommodate vegetarians nicely, which I believe is important. The meal sizes are reasonable, and they do a good job of making this a healthy diet - you’re getting the right amounts of everything you need on it.
(I have to insert my major quibble – with all the great things there are to say about this program… I hate hate HATE that it’s called ‘fat loss 4 IDIOTS’! You aren’t an idiot, no one looking to lose weight is an idiot – I know they’re just riffing on ‘for dummies’ (which also… you’re not a dummy!) but… GRR. (maybe I’m protesting too hard? hehe)
They really do make it easy – easy to follow, easy to cook, easy to stay on it. It doesn’t seem to take any more time then normal eating would, they aren’t recommending anything other then real foods to eat (no supplements to buy!) and real testimonials up and down the web – most aren’t saying they’ve lost the full 9 pounds, but 5-6 pounds in 11 days seems much healthier and sustainable long term.
I was skeptical of the efficiency of a diet program that didn’t include exercise, but the evidence seems to be that for people that just want a diet program that’s simple and easy and holds you by the hand, Fat Loss 4 Idiots is a great, cheap ($39) weight loss plan.

(Although I think this graphic is much cooler, unfortunately the graphic design of Fat Loss 4 Idiots isn’t very attractive… I thought I’d give you the example up on top so you’d know what you were looking at when you click to the website.)
