This program is fantastic – well rounded, solid advice, and good plans for long-term usefulness. Jeff Anderson, the author, has done a great job.
His program has a variety of workouts AND a ton of diet advice. And focuses on 6 other areas that will help propel your fat loss efforts (and that’s not as scary as it sounds, they generally are easy additions to your diet or workouts).
Jeff Anderson is a military guy. I was put off by the idea at first, but it ends up being great – you know he’s learned motivational tactics. If you’re looking for a little inspiration, he’s going to do it for you. And he was in the army for 10 years – he saw a wide range of people there, overweight, underweight, and it was his job to get them in shape, quickly. Even more so then civilian personal trainers… these people were being thrown in situations where there lives depended on being in shape.

His tone is firm but understanding. He promotes a whole line of body-building workouts, so he gets to emphasize muscles at all cost there (I don’t like those guides nearly as much – kind of macho) – this particular program is exclusively about getting healthy and fit. The main manual (160 pages) starts off with a very ‘military’ introduction – comparing your weight loss to wars and battles. He really does carry this theme throughout the entire book, in how he’s labeled parts of weight loss (‘killer instinct’ ‘chemical warefare’ – that threw me off, but it’s not about steroids or anything you wouldn’t give to a child).
Here are some highlights I pulled out as I read the course.
He focuses on exercise as the main route to fat loss. His workout ‘formulas’ are very well explained and incorporate a lot of variety – weight lifting in pyramids and cardio. Even though many of the workouts revolve around body weight exercises, there’s a call for a variety of cardio machines – you will probably need to be a member of a gym, or like to work out outside to start out this program. He only calls for workouts three times a week – but he includes suggestions for the other days if you want to accelerate your weight loss.
He puts in 9 different levels (and 2 weeks of pre-program) of workouts – they’ll keep you going for a long time. I like that you can choose the exercises from the different muscle groups – would keep things interesting.
His nutrition guide is extremely sensible. He doesn’t AT ALL ask you to measure anything or count calories – but he does want you to eat in fairly regulated ways. Timing, type, and ‘general size’ are important. But he really does tell you to eat dessert every day. He includes cheat meals. He talks about colon cleansing without recommending any of the scammy projects, in a way that makes sense (he’s really squeamish about it, it’s funny).
He’s got some great ‘mental game’ advice - of course, it’s all things you have to DO yourself – that’s never going to be any different. But it’s not complicated, is rather original, and well worded.
He has a full-on flow chart for when you plateau! Wow – this might be the best part of this course – and it’s on the second to last page. Very worth a look.
Buying the program is a simple matter – credit card or paypal, and it brings you right to the web page where you can start downloading your e-books. 3 main books, and some automatic bonuses (how to estimate body fat % w/o a calipers, diet plans by target calorie #) that seem worthwhile.
In conclusion, I think this is a VERY solid, well-rounded, and educational course for anyone looking to become healthier in every way – exercise and diet. It manages to be thorough, without being overwhelming. It would work great for focusing your fat loss efforts – just be aware that it’s a lifestyle change, will be a lot to remember for your first few weeks, and require a lot of work. Enjoy!
