Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is an intense, nutrition-based approach to fat and weight loss. This program is perfect if you need to know all the answers, are fired up to make a major change in your life, are willing to figure out how to customize his solution just for you, and want to go gangbusters towards a weight loss solution.
Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is a very successful program, which is reassuring. It’s been around for a long time (especially in internet terms) and is still a high-selling product. No one can fault it as a superb program for learning about nutrition, healthy weight loss, and training for health.

It’s based on Tom Vennuto’s experiences as a top-ranked natural (no supplements) body builder and coach to others in the fitness model industry – but he’s taken the best and most applicable of the techniques from these professionals and adapted them to everyone.
It’s almost hard to review, the book is so comprehensive. It’s main focus is nutrition. You will learn a LOT about nutrition if you study this book thoroughly. It shows you how to create meal plans that consist only of foods you chose to eat, and how to tweak those plans for maximum fat loss. It shows you (and asks you to) evaluate yourself in terms of how you react to differing levels of protein, carbohydrates, and fat – a long-term process, but excellent once you get it right. It also includes everything you might want to know about metabolism, etc. I’m not overstating how thorough this is – it feels (and reads) like a textbook. Awesome for detail-oriented people.
There is quite a bit of workout advice in the book – but not as much workout focus as I expected given Tom’s background in lifting. This really lets the nutrition shine – he even explains how to work his nutrition plan into other types of workout plans. There’s definitely enough here to get you started on a solid, reasonable plan though, emphasizing weightlifting as well as cardio. You’ll need a gym membership for this plan, and if you don’t know how to do exercises as stated, you’ll need to find another source of instruction – this entire guide is sans pictures.
This plan falls down on the hand-holding. The book starts off with a great chapter on motivation and habit-building – but after that you’re left to puzzle things out on your own. You’ll have to do a lot of reading to discover what you’ll be doing, and there’s plenty of ways for you to change your mind and second guess yourself. If you’re prone to waffling on implementing a plan, this might not be for you – maybe better to find something that is simply and directly laid out, to stop the indecision. If you’re a beginner and want some hand-holding, get a simpler plan that will give you the basis for this knowledge first – it will pay off.
This plan is going to be a lot of work. It prides itself on that. But if you put in the effort and see the plans through, you will get excellent results – both in weight/fat loss, and in general health, energy, and wellness.
This concludes my Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle review: Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle is a solid program that feels solid. You’ll be digesting this information for a long time, with many many re-reads. It’s the most comprehensive book (not just e-book) I’ve seen on nutrition and health. If you’re worried about total information and potential for your money, this is the book to get.
